New IRCC Policy Allows Foreign Workers To Study Without Authorization
A temporary public policy allowed work permit holders to study without a separate study permit, removing a long-standing barrier to upskilling.
Under a temporary public policy, foreign workers holding a valid work permit were permitted to enrol in study programs without applying for a separate study permit, subject to time limits and program conditions.
The change made it easier for workers to upgrade credentials while employed in Canada, which in turn supports longer-term immigration goals.
Because the policy is time-limited, workers should confirm the current end date and conditions before enrolling. We advise clients on how study choices interact with work permit renewals and permanent residence pathways.
